Two Flood Warnings in Force for Merseyside Saturday Night

Merseyside was under two specific flood warnings on Saturday evening, meaning flooding was expected, and a further three areas had flood alerts where flooding was described as possible. One of the warnings was issued that evening. The region had been hit by wind and rain from Storm Boelo.

New Brighton

Storm Boelo has brought disruption to much of the UK this weekend. Earlier in the day the government issued a flood warning for New Brighton in Wirral. It says flooding from the Irish Sea is expected there because of high tides, from 10.45pm. The locations most affected are expected to be Marine Point Leisure and Retail Park.

The next high tide, on the afternoon of 25 October, is expected to reach the flood alert threshold. The warning adds that higher than normal high tides are expected over the next two days, so more alerts and warnings may follow.

Clubmoor and Tuebrook

The second warning is for flooding in Liverpool and focuses on the Tue Brook river, a tributary of the River Alt that flows through the West Derby area. It centres on Clubmoor. Lindsay Road, Abingdon Road, Daneville Road and Frampton Road are named as vulnerable. People are urged to take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water if possible.

Alerts for other areas

Hoylake in Wirral is listed as another area that could be affected by high tides in the Irish Sea. A warning for the River Alt says rising river levels could put watercourses from Huyton to Hightown at risk. Kirkby, Fazakerley, Maghull, Formby, Aughton, Sefton and Lunt are among the places named.

A flood alert has also been issued for the Lower River Douglas.
