Harry Styles Recreates His X Factor Audition at Halloween Show

Harry Styles dressed as his 16-year-old self and sang Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely", the song he performed at his 2010 X Factor audition. The moment came at Madison Square Garden in New York on October 30.

It was the first of two "Harryween" concerts. The night was the penultimate date of his 30-night residency at the venue.

Elvis first, then the audition

Styles began the show as Elvis Presley, in the white jumpsuit with a cape and gold sunglasses. His band and dancers dressed as different versions of him from across his career. Some looks were inspired by his appearances at Coachella, the Grammys and the Met Gala.

Later he changed into the clothes from the audition. He also repeated a line from that day, telling the crowd: "I work in a bakery."

At the audition, he arrived from Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, where he had a part-time job at a bakery. Viewers first saw him sing Wonder's 1976 hit without accompaniment. Extra footage released by The X Factor in 2022 showed he had started with Train's "Hey, Soul Sister". Simon Cowell stopped him and asked to hear something without music. Styles then sang the Wonder song for Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh. He went through to the next stage. He was later placed in a group with Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson, which became One Direction.

A Halloween tradition

Styles held his first two Halloween concerts at Madison Square Garden in 2021. On opening night he was Dorothy from The Wizard Of Oz and sang "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", with his band as other characters from the film. The next evening he wore a clown costume and covered Britney Spears' "Toxic". In Los Angeles in 2022 he came as Danny Zuko from Grease and covered Olivia Newton-John's "Hopelessly Devoted To You".

This year's residency is part of his "Together, Together" world tour. Earlier in the week he played "Ever Since New York" for the first time in four years. During the run he has also paid tribute to his late One Direction bandmate Liam Payne with a new song, "What Is Enough".

The New York run ends on October 31 with the second Halloween show. Styles then travels to Australia for concerts in Melbourne and Sydney in November and December. The tour supports his fourth solo album, "Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally", released in March. He has also announced more dates for 2027, including extra Wembley Stadium shows with support from Kylie Minogue and LCD Soundsystem.
