Alice in Wonderland Gig Panto Comes to Birkenhead
Birkenhead music venue Future Yard is staging its second Gig Panto this Christmas, again working with Off The Ground Theatre. This year's show is Alice in Wonderland, reimagined as a psychedelic trip through a surreal Wonderland inspired by Merseyside.
A panto with a live band
The Gig Panto mixes the cheek of traditional pantomime with the energy of a live concert. In this version, Alice and her band have just recorded the perfect demo when a panicked White Rabbit steals it and vanishes. Alice follows him down an enchanted acoustic rabbit hole and lands back in Wonderland, where the underground music scene is run by the Queen of Hearts. To get her songs back, Alice has to out-rock the royal court and uncover the Queen's big secret.
A full band performs psychedelic classics by The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, 13th Floor Elevators, Love, Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones, along with festive favourites. Mat Oliphant, co-director of Off The Ground Theatre, said the team is excited to return to Future Yard, promising more adventure, more laughs and more ridiculous characters, helped by the venue's new space.
Dates and tickets
- Eight performances at Future Yard, Birkenhead, from 22 to 31 December 2026.
- Evening shows start at 7.30pm.
- Matinees on 24 and 31 December start at 1.30pm.
- Tickets: £17.50 adults, £12.50 concessions, £10 for under-12s.
- Family ticket for two adults and two children or concessions: £50.
