Frimpong Misses Another Game as Saudi Talk Grows
Jeremie Frimpong will miss his 26th Liverpool game through injury when the team travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday. Reports of a move to Saudi Arabia have arrived at the same time.
A career interrupted again
He is currently out with a muscle injury. It is his fifth lay-off in less than 18 months on Merseyside. Since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025 he has played 26 league games for Liverpool, and only 27 of his 43 appearances in all competitions were starts.
It began well, with a goal on his debut in the Community Shield against Crystal Palace at Wembley. Then he was hurt on his Premier League debut against AFC Bournemouth and had to catch up.
Last month he limped off against Brentford only six minutes after coming on. That made four times he has had to leave the pitch hurt since joining Liverpool.
The Palace history
Liverpool's last visit to Selhurst Park came last September. Frimpong was at fault for the winning goal for Palace in that game. The report says Arne Slot subtly called out his fellow Dutchman in public that day, and that it has been a struggle ever since. He also missed out on the Netherlands' World Cup squad last summer.
The club triggered his £29.5m release clause to fill the gap left by Trent Alexander-Arnold. He also counted as homegrown because of his time in the Manchester City academy. His return so far is three goals and three assists.
Saudi interest and the right-back question
Middle Eastern reports claim Al-Hilal are interested and that Frimpong is open to a switch there. They say former Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, who has since moved to Al-Hilal himself, would like to sign him a second time. He has also been linked with Barcelona. He remains under contract until 2030, and the January window opens in eight weeks.
Frimpong is a wing-back, a role in which he shone at Leverkusen. That is not how Liverpool set up. Ronald Araujo had already taken over at right-back before Frimpong's latest setback. Araujo's loan from Barcelona includes a £47.5m purchase option.
Bradley, a long-term absentee, is said to be slowly closing in on a return to team training. Frimpong is due back after the international break.
