Green Grants of Up to £30,000 Open Across the City Region
Community groups across the Liverpool City Region can now apply for the fourth round of the Community Environment Fund. This year £350,000 is available for local projects that improve the environment and encourage lasting changes in behaviour. The new round brings total investment in the fund to £1.7 million.
Two sizes of grant
- Smaller projects can apply for between £1,000 and £4,999.
- Larger projects with bigger environmental and community benefits can apply for between £5,000 and £30,000.
The fund is open to not-for-profit community groups and organisations. Eligible themes include climate change and resilience, transport and active travel, water sustainability, accessible green spaces and biodiversity, carbon and environmental literacy, energy efficiency and food sustainability.
What the fund has achieved
Since it launched in 2021, the fund has supported more than a hundred local projects, from community gardens and beekeeping to food growing and active travel schemes. Hundreds of volunteers have helped plant 30,000 plants and trees and grow more than 8,000 kg of sustainable food. The projects also support the city region's target of reaching net zero by 2035.
Cllr Angela Ball, cabinet member for energy and environment, said her own experience of community gardening showed her how much these projects can bring to an area, and that small actions add up to big differences. Gideon Ben-Tovim OBE, chair of the LCR Climate Partnership, said the fund has raised awareness of the climate emergency as well as delivering projects, and encouraged as many groups as possible to apply.
Key dates
An online information webinar takes place on Tuesday 20 October at 5pm and will be recorded for those who cannot attend. The closing date for applications is midnight on 30 November 2026.
